In Home Away from Home, French-Palestinian artist Batniji brings together photographs, selections from family archives, drawings, and writings to explore the sense of dislocation and different ideas of “home” experienced by various members of his family who immigrated to the United States from the Middle East.
Alongside Lesley Martin we comprehensively edited and sequenced the artists’ large collection of images, paintings, photographs and archives from Palestine. The book interweaves these images through a responsive grid and varying paper stocks, while the texts move across trimmed bilingual pages - all interspersed and mixed to characterise the multiple outcomes and possibilities of displacement.
